![]() There are three species who inhabit the planet: Fellpool (cat people), Highlanders (tiger people), and Featherfolk (angels). Roak is an interesting planet and setting. You might just have to play it to fully understand it. The plot of Star Ocean: First Departure R mostly makes sense. If that sounds confusing, then don’t worry. If they succeed, then maybe they can save the Roak of the present. ![]() The stakes are pretty high: an Archfiend is trying to destroy the planet Roak and our heroes must stop him 500 years in the past. It’s basically a bottle episode where the Enterprise crew spends most of the runtime on a humanoid planet and helps them solve their problems.Īlong the way, players experience typical sci-fi tropes like spaceship battles, time travel, and ancient advanced technology buried deep within the earth. If you love Star Trek, then you’ll love this. Unless you’re new to the franchise, you won’t find much new here: the story is mostly concerned with an underdeveloped planet, which means there’s more fantasy than sci-fi in this JRPG. Depending on how many party members you recruit, your band of protagonists may differ greatly from another player’s. The story follows a small group of medieval people with tails, humans, a kitty cat woman, an angel, and two members of a Star Trek-type galactic military called the Pangalactic Federation. If this is your first time w star ocean 2, you definitely want to buy this game. I found it to be very interesting to find out things that were different from the ps version. It's not like they won't find anything interesting in this game. It's nice to have this game redone for the psp, even though imo the ps version WAS more to my liking, but it doesn't mean ps players shouldn't try this version out too. They've also fixed the Dream Bracelet glitch, pity. Also the name switching in towns, items etc is tad annoying to old schoolers. Rena's moon on her hair switch sides making it look like she has moon both sides of her head. Also the animators have been a bit lazy as in dialogues where you can see the character's picture, they just flip the same picture i.e. It's also nice to have one extra character added, even though s/he is pretty much piece of crap. I do like the added animations which the ps version didn't have. I didn't like the new character arts and most character new voiceovers (I preferred the old ones I was used to). I've played this game several times when it was first released for the ps1. Like JRPGs? You DEFINITELY don't want to miss out on this one!
